Your family will develop friendships with your guest teen and their family in Northern Ireland. You will also develop friendships with the other teens (both American and Northern Irish) in the project. You will gain information about Northern Ireland, experience the "Northern Irish accent" and participate in many fun activities during the project. Many past teens travel to Northern Ireland during subsequent summers which follow their Hosting year.
Your teen will also participate in "Discovery" sessions which contributes to personal growth in all teen participants. Many past teens describe the project as "the best summer of my life." Your teen will also participate in service projects. After completing the project, your teen can receive a letter certifying the appropriate number of service hours which can be used for applying to the National Honor Society as well as college admissions and scholarships.

Host families take a Northern Irish teen into their homes for the whole month of July. This month is filled with laughter, adventure, team building, and moments of clarity as students form lifelong bonds. They learn about each other and their religious differences as they participate in Discovery sessions that are meant to help them become closer as friends and participants.

Throughout the month we go to places like Dollywood and The Island in Pigeon Forge. Adventure is also part of the summer as we go whitewater rafting, tubing, and climb ropes courses across East Tennessee. An Ulster Summer is a Summer like no other. Whether you're a first time participant or a returning Ulster Teen, we'd love to have your family host one of our Ulster Project Irish Teenagers. Follow the link below to start the process of becoming a host family. We can't wait to hear from you.
